Bell Ringers

St. Mary's Tysoe bellringersWe meet regularly to practice the ancient art of campanology. We welcome people joining us of any experience or age (very young children may have to wait a while before they can learn; if in doubt please check with us.)

To find out more please contact the tower captain Alison Parker, on 01295 680288, or just come along on a Wednesday evening at 08:00 p.m. The practice is for an hour, after which we then usually go to the pub (!)

Over the last couple of years we have worked hard to restore the bell tower. A lot of improvements have been made and our bells are now a pleasure to ring. This is now a good tower to learn in as the bells behave beautifully. Anybody can learn to bell ring and we offer full training.

Fairly regularly, the trained bell ringers will ring for Sunday morning worship and for special events like weddings, or village celebrations.

On Wednesday 5th October Rev David Knight joined us in the tower to perform one last task prior to his departure. The new ropes which were purchased earlier in the year needed to be dedicated. The new rope "spider", which was kindly donated to us from Neville Jones of Harbury, was dedicated also. Finally, David joined in the ringing and rang the 4th, beautifully, to some decent rounds and call changes!! He was presented with a wooden bell shaped baby "spider" depicting the words "Champion Campanologist" and of course, a bottle of bells whiskey

A new band of ringers was formed in 1997 as part of the Central Council national recruitment campaign to "ring in" the year 2000. At that point in time it wasn't the intention to begin a programme of maintenance and repair on the bells but inevitably various projects became apparent and so the ringers are constantly fundraising to meet these requirements and to secure the future of these historic bells. The major work has been carried out by John Taylor Bellfounders www.taylorbells.co.uk

Ringing is available for anyone from about 11 onwards and until recently we were an "all lady" tower!!

We are all members of the Coventry Diocesan Guild of Church Bellringers
www.Coventrydg.co.uk which keeps us in touch, meeting other ringers and visiting towers anywhere nationwide.

The latest fundraising event was a quiz which raised a fantastic £540 which has helped purchase a set of new ropes and aid the funding of repairs to the Treble wheel.
